SPI Waterloop System for Mas y Mas

Fast Track Sustainability: 30 dayfrom starttofinish

Más y Más is a Spanish supermarket chain operating more than 200 neighborhood and regional food stores across eastern Spain. Known for its focus on local produce, service quality, and sustainable operations, the retailer continues to modernize its store network with energy-efficient refrigeration solutions. The opening of its new Xixona store in the province of Alicante has now become a benchmark project for sustainable, fast-track retail development.

The new store was completed and fully commissioned in just 30 days, showcasing the strength of AHT’s modular, system technology. The installation features AHT’s SPI Waterloop system, based on natural refrigerant R290 (propane), which eliminates the need for a centralized machine room. This approach reduces installation complexity, lowers noise levels, and significantly cuts energy consumption. The system includes chest freezers, refrigerated and freezer multidecks, cold rooms and integrated serve over counters.

Individual solution to meet customer requirements

.

Previously, Más y Más relied on centralized CO₂ systems, which would have been impractical within the tight project timeline. AHT’s modular solution provided the flexibility and efficiency needed to meet deadlines without compromising sustainability.
The success of this project builds on a long-standing partnership between Más y Más and AHT. The retailer has trusted AHT chest freezers and systems for years, following excellent results with its first full Waterloop store in Santa Pola in 2022. With the Xixona installation officially opened in December 2024, Más y Más once again confirms its confidence in AHT’s sustainable and high-performance refrigeration technology.

By combining innovation, efficiency, and teamwork across suppliers and subcontractors, this project demonstrates how AHT continues to set standards for rapid, environmentally friendly store development in European food retail.
